Unique Student ID's

When inputting student ID's that are specific to our school, it does not alert us when a duplicate is entered in. Is there a method OR a home-grown solution that anyone has found beyond the find function in Excel?

So, October 18, 2017 - I posted that idea in the Idea Bank - It was a feature in Education Edge but never was implemented, although one of the many promises made back when Whipple Hill was acquired. I got 11 votes… link to idea is below.

  • Our schools switched to using the User ID for everything since that is auto-assigned when the record is created and is forced to be unique and cannot be edited.

This has worked well for us. The only drawback is that User ID is not visible to parents/students. At our high school campus, they did have need for parents to see the User ID for registration on some third-party website for ordering lunches. To solve that problem, each year, immediately before school starts, I export all the User IDs of all students and do a data import to make it the Student ID. Therefore, students end up with a User ID and a Student ID that are identical, but the Student ID 'is' visible to the parents/student.

  • @Geoffrey Goodfellow we do the same process

    Thanks Vicky -

That link takes me to the homepage, but I found your idea here: https://blackbaudk12.ideas.aha.io/ideas/K12CO-I-1976

Hopefully that link works. I voted it up just now. This would be a nice feature.
