PayPal - Recurring Donors

Hi, We have about 114 monthly donors (subscriptions) via our current PayPal set up. I understand that if we switch over to using the OLX PayPal option, you can not sign up for a recurring donation via PayPal anymore. They would have to use the BBMS transaction to do so. Am I correct in that?

Additionally, those PayPal monthly “Subscribers”, they will continue to be charged monthly via PayPal….so would that still result in pulling my PayPal reports in our business account for import into RE, as I currently do now. I am just trying to figure out if this will be extra work by switching PayPal to be run via OLX.

    Hi @Lauren Fardella - You are correct that the new PayPal OLX option does not support recurring donations, and if a donor were chose to give monthly via an OLX form their credit card information would be processed via BBMS.

    In regards to your current setup, PayPal transactions that originate from an OLX form are marked within PayPal, in the Transaction Custom Field, with ‘Blackbaud’; this makes them very easy to locate especially when your org uses the PayPal Business Account for a variety of transactions. You would need to remove any OLX PayPal transactions prior to creating your import, and would possibility need process the withdraw of funds separately, depending on your business office's process.

    Hello! This reply notes that within PayPal, the Transaction Custom Fields add “Blackbaud” in order to differentiate payments when my org uses PayPal for a variety of transactions. Since the original post was about a transaction originating in OLX, can you please confirm that the same PayPal Transaction Custom Fields will note Blackbaud if using an NXT Online Donation Form as well? I imagine it is the same, but would love some confirmation. Thanks!

    Hi @Cindy Erwin - I can confirm that PayPal transactions that originate through Blackbaud Checkout on an NXT form are marked with the ‘Blackbaud’ Custom Field within PayPal.
