Deleting account segments

Is it known if an account segment such as a reporting unit/department can be removed from the system account string and still kept in record for historical purposes? can there be a new account string for use with the old version in tact for historical purposes and reporting? Thank you.

    No once you add or extend an account segment, it's in the database permanently. The only way around is a whole new database , starting from scratch. The only other option is a service called a Reimplementation, where you work with a blackbaud resource to convert your old stucture to a new one. Both options take time and a good bit of work.

    @Anthony Eberspacher We are changing the structure of the account string (additional segments and changes in length of segments).
