KPIs to match total revenue and payments?

Has anyone had success getting your Membership KPI Actual total to match your total in the Total Revenue and Payments report? If so, can you tell me how you did that, please?

  • Hi @Yvette Yescas,

It was really nice to speak with you the other day. (I hope that our discussion was helpful and substantive enough). You had mentioned this KPI question on the call and I talked about it with our data manager, @Heather Kellerman. Among the many hats she wears, Heather leads our business reporting efforts. She said that she has done some work with the KPIs and KPI dashboards but has not invested much time in this area. Most of her in-depth reporting (and KPI type work) has been done outside of Altru - especially in PowerQuery/PowerBI and utilizing the OData links (from queries).

Heather did say that your issue sounded like it was an understandable issue to encounter. She pointed out that it can be a little challenging to understand the framework or architecture of the KPI dashboard (since there is limited documentation about how it is all set up).

Sorry that I don't have something more helpful to report here.

    Have a good one.

    Chris

  • @Chris Nungesser, for some reason, I wasn't alerted to your response, so I am just seeing it. I am not surprised that Heather does this work outside of Altru. Because the KPIs calculate on the Revenue/Amount, they are not going to be usable for organizations that want to allow add-ons, or really any revenue split. If Heather does stumble on a way to make them work, I'd love to hear, but I don't think I'm missing something in the framework or architecture here that will make the revenue KPIs give correct totals.

  • @Yvette Yescas, @Chris Nungesser @Heather Kellerman .Hello Chris, Heather and Yvette. We are having a similar problem with numbers not matching up. I would love to know if you were able to make it work. Interested to learn more about your queries (Odata) to power BI integration. Thank you!

  • @Sylvia Morales Hello! We continue to use OData sources in Power BI. If you'd like to, I'm happy to put some time on the calendar and discuss our approach(es). Like Yvette mentioned before, revenue splits complicated things for me working from query views within Altru (mostly because as soon as you queried correctly for current processes, a new operational practice would require a rework). For me, at least, keeping the query approach simple within Altru and combining queries externally allows for easier validating and maintenance over time in reporting as we grow or change practices.

  • Thank you so much for your response! I truly appreciate it! We are currently working with our IT department at UT Austin to complete the setup of a gateway server, which is required before we can fully deploy Power BI. They may not have this ready for me until May. At the moment, we are still experiencing minor data discrepancies within Altru (generally off by one constituent per day or $12 off here and there), but we continue to review and reconcile where possible and do things manually too for reporting. I would love the opportunity to spend some time with you, perhaps in early May if your schedule allows. May I ask where you are based? I am located in Austin. Warm regards, Sylvia 😀
