CVV/CSC requirements for Raisers Edge batch transactions

Kia ora team,

We were just notified that CVV/CSC collection will be a requirement when processing credit card donations in NXT from Feb 27. I have a question - we have several Regular Gifts we process manually on the 20th of each month. Will I need to reach out to all of these donors to obtain this information before their gifts can be processed, or will they process as normal?

Thanks so much,

Em

  • Hi @Em Siemonek thanks for posting! I'm reaching out to my team to see if I can find an answer. 😊

  • Hi @Em Siemonek I did hear back from my team. They said requiring CVV aligns with industry best practices and helps strengthen the protection of donor payment information. As you plan for this change, we encourage you to consider more secure alternatives to collecting card details, such as using QR codes or online donation forms. We are developing best practice resources and other tools to help you refine your CVV processes. More information on those resources will be communicated soon.

    Hope that helps!

  • @Crystal Bruce recurring gifts we've entered in the past without CVV codes will still continue processing as usual, right? We had an "oops" mailing last year where we forgot to ask for the CVV so I was very thankful we could slip these donations into RENXT. 🤣.

  • Kia ora Crystal, thanks heaps for this. I was more thinking about existing gifts we have in the system that we process on the 20th of each month that have been active for years. Will I need to reach out to all of those donors to obtain these details?

  • When these changes were rolled out without notice in March (they have since been rolled back temporarily) we were unable to amend the CC for exisiting automated recurring gifts in webview without the CVC number. But we could cancel the automated gift in web view, set up a new regular gift with the new card details in database view (CVC not required), and then convert it to an automated gift in web view.

This was an annoying workaround that will only work as long as we still have database view. But our experience would suggest that manual processing in database view may not be affected. I am assuming tha the CVC recquired for batch processing also only applies to webview batches, because database view batches do not use Blackbaud checkout.

  • Thanks so much for your response, Catherine. We encountered the same issue. How do you think you will go about handling the collection of CVC numbers when sending Donation Forms to donors with mail appeals? I am hesitant to collect this information on paper. Many of our donors are older, and do not know how to use QR codes or make donations online, so collecting this information will be vital.
