Configuring addressee/salutation

We have constituents in our system that have a home address (preferred) and a business address, along with a relationship with an org and a business address. When an ack letter is going to the home address, it should be addressed to Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, but when it goes to the business address, it should be addressed to Mr. John Smith.

How can I configure things this way? John Smith is the Primary Contact at the business. I assume I need an additional add/sal, but that's as far as I get.

We do NOT have NXT and are self hosted. Thank you!

You will need to set up additional Add/Sal types of Contact Addressee and Contact Salutation and add those to each of your contacts. When doing any mail functions or exports you'll need to select those instead of Primary Addressee & Salutation.

I recommend that you add this Add/Sal type to both Constituent Records that are contacts as well as all of your Non-Constituent relationships.

Some of this can be done through Global Add/Change and some may have to be done through Import.

  • Yes, adding an additional Add/Sal will make this work. We have an Add/Sal called Org Add and Org Sal. When setting up the mail process, under the fields tab, click on Add/Sal fields and update the contact information to pull the correct add/sal type. Hope this helps.

  • What Carlene outlined is how I have always done it.

One thing I want to clarify is that it sounds like you might have three possible addresses? A home address, a business address, and a primary business relationship which has an address?

If the individual is the primary contact for an organization, and the organization makes a donation, you can manage which address it is sent to under the Org Address field. It can either go to the preferred address on the Organization's record OR to the contact's address. I'm pretty sure if it is the latter, it uses the address on the Primary Business relationship for the contact person.

I hope I didn't make that even more confusing!
