Automatically reciprocated soft credits

We enter gifts from donor advised funds on separate DAF org records that are soft credited to the individual record by adding an individual relationship on the DAF record. This used to work great, but now NXT is automatically reciprocating the checkbox for auto-soft crediting (creating a two way soft credit).

Is there a way to turn off the automatic reciprocation, or any work around besides having to go back into the individual record and uncheck the box?

  • I think this is something that needs to be in the Idea Bank. We also just have the soft credit going the one way for DAF gifts and since not every donor that makes a gift using a DAF makes every gift from their DAF, that would make the DAF record very confusing to have soft credits from the donor showing up.

Could you provide more detail about a two-way soft credit, and what you mean by "separate DAF org records"?

I have sometimes worked with organizations who have Karen Diener in their database, The Karen Diener Family Fund, and Schwab, who administers the Fund. In my example, is The Karen Diener Family Fund or Schwab the "separate DAF org record"?

If Schwab is the DAF org, yes, this will definitely cause a problem when any other donor gives through Schwab. The ability to soft credit gifts from one record to another but NOT the other way around - automatically - is very problematic!

I have not tested this, but if you can confirm that the soft crediting is "assuming" that you want the soft credit to be in both directions, this should definitely be added as an idea. To me it is more of a bug!

  • In our case we have Karen Diener in the system and also The Karen Diener Family Fund. We have it coded so gifts from the Family Fund also soft credit Karen but if Karen gives a gift with a person check or an online gift, then the Family Fund does not get soft credit.

I'm not sure if it is an idea or a bug but definitely needs looked into.

I just tested this and created a fake DAF I creatively named it Very Fake Fund (first screenshot) and added a relationship from the org record to a test individual record named Data Record.

I checked the box to soft credit Data Record when Very Fake Fund makes a gift.

I want the relationship to reciprocate on my Data Record. I wasn't given the option but that is not an issue for me but it could be for some orgs.

I went to look at the relationship for Very Fake Fund from Data Record (second screenshot) and sure enough it is also marked to soft credit Very Fake Fund.

    Undesireable.

These checkboxes should work independently of each other to function as the system was intended and how database view works currently.

I'd say this should be an idea and a bug to make sure Blackbaud sees it.

    Here are the screenshots:

I then tested this in database view with another test record to see if that is no longer behaving as expected and it works as intended.

I created an idea to go along with this so folkx can vote - if someone else wants to reach out to support that would be great.

  • I just voted for your idea, Elizabeth- this is concerning and so frustrating. I definitely consider this to be a bug- it's entirely different from DB view, and is subtle enough that it could affect hundreds of relationships set up in webview and remain undetected for quite some time, wrecking havoc on records and reporting.
