Split Gift Receipts

Does anyone know what determines which gift displays first on NXT (webview, unified view, whatever I'm supposed to be calling it!) receipts? We use split gifts when someone covers the credit card fee. I always want the fund that they are truly giving to, to go first and then the credit card fee.

Support told me it was whichever the donor chooses first, but we don't use Blackbaud Forms (I'm trying to get my team there!), so that can't be the answer in my case. I have been testing this in our Sandbox and I KNOW I am selecting the fund first, then the credit card fee fund when I am entering the gift, but the credit card fee fund is showing up first on receipts.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give!

@Elizabeth Baxter I know that in discussions of webview batch, there have been several comments that when you "save and review" a batch the save times for each gift vary and therefore the order of the gifts as you entered them in batch is not preserved. For example, we enter gifts in descending amount order so $1,000 would be before $750, etc. However, if that $1,000 gift has additional data (say a fundraiser assignment and soft credit) and the $750 gift does not have any of that, after hitting save and review the $750 gift is listed above the $1,000 gift.

All this to say, I am wondering if something similar is happening with receipts where it grabs both and the first one to be pulled is listed. Are the CC fees consistently listed first or is it more random? If random, then I think the loading piece would be the case. If they are consistently first, then it might be something else.

@Anthony Gallo not sure if this falls into your wheelhouse, but also curious to see what @Carlene Johnson and @Sunshine Reinken Watson have to say.

Have experienced the same thing, @Elizabeth Baxter

We are entering from external donation platform - manually and via import. Fund is listed first but for some instances, batch displays card fee fund first. Haven't taken time to see if it's auto sorting by fund ID or some deeper ID.

  • @JoAnn Strommen @Dan Snyder The answer that support and I concluded after a lot of testing in their test database and mine is that it displays in the order that the Funds are added to your database. The oldest fund displays first on the receipt. So far that theory has proven to be true (but to be honest I was given a lot of other answers before that one so it could still be wrong…).

Now how they display on the gift tile/tab in the database, I also can't quite figure out. It also seems to export in a random order too. That matters a little less to me, since its an internal thing, but just an interesting thing to note!

thanks. I'd say that's it by just what I've seen.

Getting caught up on this thread now. I'm not surprised to find out that it is based on the order the funds were added to the database. That is the same kind of logic when a two records have the same email address. I think when choosing which of the two records to mail to that it selects whichever record was created first.

It has to use some sort of logic - so this tracks.

@Anthony Gallo could probably confirm - but at this point I'd just go with that assumption. It would be nice if there were consistency throughout all the different places though BB has plenty of other higher priority issues to tackle first, I'm sure!
