Import in WV to replace Global Change in DB

Since Global change is not moving to NXT, has anyone successfully used the Import function to make global changes? Will we have to export a query and update it then import the file and mark it "Update" on the import screen? We use the global change feature monthly to update post dates at month-end for Accounts Payable so that they post to the correct month. I use the import function all the time, but typically its to add new information, not change information already in the system. Thank you for any insight you can provide.

for just invoice updates, you could. The import type would be Update so it knows it's not adding but updating existing invoices. In the export, query , I would make sure to have the Import ID of the invoice, it's a field that should live under Import Properties. You can use that to direct each line to each invoice you want to update the post date for the new date.

  • Just so that I am understanding, I would do an export (same one I would use to do the global change, but add the Import ID field), update the post date field then import the updated file using the "Update" function?

This seems too easy, surely I am missing something. :D

Are you talking about Financial Edge or Raiser's Edge? I only ask because I thought that FE was completely in webview and that a database view has not been accessible for at least a couple of years now. But you mention that "global change is not moving to NXT" so I'm just making sure I understand the issue.

Although Global Change itself is not moving "as is" to RENXT, Blackbaud has said that the functionality will move to webview. It may be in the form of batch updates. We do not yet have details, but I believe you'll ultimately be able to do what is necessary.

And sorry if I have muddied the thread by talking about RENXT!

  • HI Karen. Thank you for your response. I was talking about Financial Edge, sorry for not specifying that. There are still a few things left in DB view and global change is one of them. I am just trying to determine the best way to do that function in WV.
