Help with truncating requirements

Hi! My organization recently made the switch to the new grantee portal and switched grant requirements (final reports) that originated in the legacy portal over to the new portal. I did not set character limits for any of the responses on the form; but all the pending submissions show an error code-

Submission Error

Property: Notes

Description: Notes can not exceed 255 characters.

For the first requirement, I tried to consider it by truncating the responses. But now none of the responses populate on Blackbaud (I can only see them as an External Document download). Is anyone else having a similar error? Do I need to alter the form or do something specific when truncating?

  • Hey @Skyler Valle I am also checking with my team on this, but do also encourage you to open a support ticket on this one as well if it is still occuring so support can gather details and investigate further. Thanks!

Character limits are a new thing in the new application portal. I think Blackbaud shared some work arounds in a previous update.

I went in to each field that had a character limit and selected "show word count" "show character count" and then added the limits for each. If there was a field that I really needed to be more than the character count that was provided, I made a new field.

  • @Audrey Kidwell thanks for the input! I've learned that the "Notes" field key is in fact limited to 255 characters, so you are right that I need a new field. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of Requirement field options. It appears that you need the Blueprint add-on to create your own Custom Fields. I'm now waiting to see if Blackbaud support can create a Custom field for me.
