Best way to print membership cards

Hello! We are very new to Altru and still trying to figure out the best way to print our membership cards. Our goal is to have plastic cards with the member's information on the backside. Does anyone have suggestions on what works best? Do you have in-house hardware that can merge with Altru and print the information on the card? Are printing labels for the back easier? SO many questions! Thank you in advance for all of the advice!

  • We use an 8.5x11 piece of paper with peel off cards.  On the back are our benefits, rules, etc.  On the front is where the member name, ID, Level and expiration go. I'm happy to send a sample.  These are for members that want their card mailed.  We print the same information on both cards.  As we only allow two people on a member record (primary and spouse/domestic partner).  This has very much worked for me since we got Altru in 2017.
  • We do the same thing as Regina.
  • Our donor level cards with bar-codes are printed in-house via the Altru templates and merged into Word. Our general membership cards are digital.
  • We also print plastic cards with a bar code and member information. We had to purchase the card printer and member cards. Please let me know if you want me to send you our process.
  • We have pre-printed vinyl cards that are glued onto a paper backer.  They are called Poly EZ cards and we get them from Consolidated Document Solutions in Michigan (ask for Pat Fox).  We pull the list out of Altru and do a word merge (in word) and print onto the front of the backer and card.  We then fold and stuff into envelopes.  The member can then peel the card off and put into their wallet.  The paper backer has a list of benefits on the front and the list of reciprocal gardens on the back.

We just signed up with Cuseum, though, so now bulk of our membership cards will go out via email and only people who request a paper card or do not have email will get the physical card.

Happy to answer any additional questions for you,

  • We are new to Altru and are trying to figure out our card printing process. In the past we used plastic cards printed through a Zebra printer and were able to print reciprocal logos on reciprocal level membership cards but now we are having issues because we have some reciprocal levels within a Membership program that also includes non-reciprocal levels. How is everyone printing membership cards with Altru if you have a mix of reciprocal and non-reciprocal membership levels? How do digital cards through Museum Anywhere approach reciprocal program logos? I am open to any and all ideas!

  • We are using Museum Anywhere. We are able to select which reciprocals are shown for each membership type.

  • Thank you for your response! So in Museum Anywhere you can note which levels are reciprocal even when not all the levels within the membership program are reciprocal?
We seem to be locked into Membership Programs by Altru which means we can can't mass print cards if some of the levels are reciprocal and others are not.

  • Yes, you can specify which levels are reciprocal.
