Monthly Membership

Hello, We are in the process of starting a monthly membership program. There are 2 ways to do this - either dues based or contribution based. I have worked with chat support to set up both, but I still have some questions and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with either. I think we are going to go with the dues based program however, I would still like to get the contributions based one to work too just in case we want to sell them online in the future.

My question for the dues based program is that when a family visits the museum and then decides to join with a monthly membership, we would like the first month to be free and have a registration fee of $5. I set this up with a discount code and an add-on. The problem is that with the discount code, even though what I read said that it only applies to the first month - the membership is setting up to be free every month so we would have to go in and edit the prices on the future installments. Any advice on how to make the discount a one-time deal would be greatly appreciated.

My question for the contributions based program which I have set up with a membership initiative hierarchy and designation that is linked back to the monthly membership program. I was under the impression that there is a process that runs overnight that somehow looks for this designation and knows that the constituent is a member and adds the membership to their record. In my test cases, this is not happening. I am not sure if the overnight process is not configured correctly or if it is because for my test case, I used a $0 membership rate. I have had support review my process and it is set up correctly. Can anyone tell me what actually is supposed to happen? Will it show up as a membership on the constituent or am I misunderstanding. I can't find any documentation or videos with a screen shot.

Thank-you for any help,

Tamara

  • If they have to sign up for auto renewal for monthly
subscriptions, you might be able to use this check box.

  • Hi! Can I ask what ended up happening with your attempts to set up a monthly membership at your org? From what I can tell, it looks like it's still not an easy option to offer through Altru, but am trying to get the latest info…Thanks in advance for any insights you can share!

  • Hi Claire, We went with the dues-based model and it seems to be working out. It is not a very popular option so we only have a handful of monthly members. The problem is that you can't sell those online. I remember that there are pros and cons to both options and the dues-based seemed easier. I don't know why there isn't a webform available for it. Does anyone know why the webform can't be approved for the website? - Tamara

  • Did you just set the term as 1 month? I still am not following how you set it up as monthly. Do you have a screen shot of the set up? And also, is it considered a different program from your traditional membership? And if so, does it muck up reporting? I don't see a way to add/edit my traditional membership to include a monthly option. As much info as you can share would be appreciated!

  • Hi Lori,

Here are some screen shots - Start by adding a Membership Program and choose recurring/sustaining.

    I hope this helps!

It is a different program and it doesn't muck up the reporting because it is seperate.

If you choose the other way of selling monthly memberships (through the hierarchy - more of a donation based), you will probably have to chat with Altru. I figured it out, but since we didn't end up using it, I can't quite remember. But if you need to sell them online, you have to do it that way.

    I hope this helps!
