Summer Memberships?

Hi there BB Altru Community,

I'm curious if any organizations offer Summer only memberships. I'm wanting to offer these for our museum as a way to jumpstart sales post-COVID, but am searching for best practices to model after. Here are some initial questions:

I realize there is a "3 month" option to activate, but we would like to memberships to run only on specific dates-

1. Would these be part of a separate Membership Program? If so, would they be transferable if a member decided to extend into a full year on our main membership program?

2. Is there a way to set a specific time period for activation and expiration of membership?

Has anyone else had success with a program like this? Thanks in advance!

  • We did this - and set it up as a separate program (mistake) because then when we renewed them - we had to add a new membership (it's been 4 years so things may have changed). We learned the people who purchased summer memberships only used them for summer ( a lot) and didn't renew. I would charge a premium for summer and a discount to upgrading to a full year.
  • I would like to do summer memberships as well, but find pricing difficult. They would be almost too affordable if there were 1/4 the cost of annual membership. ?
  • Awesome, thank you both. Yes, we would charge a little bit of a premium for the administrative cost of running a shorter membership program. With the added assumption that the cost for the member would be "regained" if they extended for the remaining amount of a general membership. The idea is to make our museum accessible financially to those families who may not be able to afford the full price all at once. I'd almost prefer to think that we are too affordable!

Interesting information about how the different membership program might be a mistake. I'll take that into account as we build it out!
