Tracking Grant Periods (Start and End Dates)

How does everyone track grant periods in Opportunities? I am creating an Opportunities SOP with one of our grant managers and she mentioned it would be helpful to track grant start and end dates in Opportunities. There currently isn't a field existing in NXT, but it looks like an old database manager created a custom field in Database view (under the attributes section of Proposals). This field unfortunately doesn't transfer over to Opportunities in NXT (which is the primary way my gift officers view proposals/opportunities.)

I would ideally like to be able to query these dates but I am not sure how or where to create these fields. Does anyone have any experience adding Grant Periods to Opportunities? TIA for your suggestions!

@Lenny Zimmermann Yes, there should be an additional column to the right in your screenshot that has active. If you click on the 3 dots to the left of the custom field, you can edit the field and that would show a dialog box where you can mark it as active or not.

@Lenny Zimmermann You should be able to see opportunity/proposal custom fields/attributes in NXT. Is it possible either the gift officers don't have rights to see those entries or they have been inactivated? This is where I am trying to get my gift officers to record this information as well.

@Dan Snyder so I checked custom fields in NXT and it's showing as a custom field but when I go into Opportunities it's not an active field? Do I need to change/update this custom field? I'll admit I don't have much experience setting up custom fields in RE.

  • Oooh ok I figured it out. I didn't realize that it wasn't part of the initial window when you create an Opportunity (similar to how you have to add attachments or actions after creating). I updated my settings to allow only one per record. Thank you for helping me troubleshoot :)

  • I will say, the one downside to having Grant Term Dates as a custom field is you can't make them columns in Opportunity lists. When my gift officers are reviewing their portfolios in Work Center (or Opportunity lists) it would be super helpful to be able to see those fields.
