The Buzz: Unsolvable Puzzle Edition

Good Morning Community!

Are you personally aware of your strengths and weaknesses?  I know I am.  I'm a super outgoing person, able to communicate with just about anyone, and I absolutely love the fact that I'm able to pull myself back from situations and calmly and rationally look at the pros and cons of any given moment.

On the negative side?  Rubik's Cube.

In my thirty-something years of attempting them, I have actually never solved one.  Not a single one.  If the world depended upon me solving one, then I have bad news for mankind.

So what's your little known flaw that makes you laugh?  Something that you might call a quirk?  I'd love to hear them in the comments below.

And now, on to....

  • Ray,  I had to laugh when you stated that you can never solve the Rubik's cub dilemma.  I hope it makes you feel better that I can't either.  On the bright side, I said forget it ever since my then 10 year old grandson can solve it in no time at all.  That is when I said I will not TORTURE myself any longer. I try hard to accomplish fixing my weaknesses once I notice them and sometimes I just feel like I don't have the energy.  I am very outgoing as well, but am quiet at times and very reserved.  Probably need to work on that.  Thanks for sharing about the cube.  I am happy that you keep on trying and that is to be an accomplishment to keep on keep'in on.
  • Well, I wouldn't call solving a Rubik's Cube a "quirk" necessarily, but I've been pretty good at solving those since I was a teen.  It's just memorizing about 10 patterns and knowing when to use them.  There are many different methods of solving - I only know this one.  So....a quirk of mine?  Hmmmmm.............I can to the Columbo "eye" thing (and so can my 7 and 11-year old, which I find very amazing - and so do they).  Apologies for anyone who doesn't remember Lt. Columbo.
  • That I can't ice skate!
  • I can't see the image in those random pattern prints that you are supposed to stare at.
  • Charlotte Duncan‍ - YES.  Same here.  Close one eye, put your nose on it, Cross your eyes, Do the hokey pokey.  NONE of it helps me.  I've never seen one either.
  • I'm with Charlotte Duncan‍! I totally can't see those!
  • I can't swim. I like watersports (with life jacket!) and about a million people have tried to teach me and failed. I just sink OK??
  • I cannot, for the life of me: 1) wink and 2) say any word that has "oil" in it. Boil? Coil? Foil? Nope, nuh-uh, no way.
  • I can drive but I don't!  I know I am terrible at it!

I can't solve a Rubik's cube or ice skate either.  And I'm a poor dancer.
  • Liz Hackett‍, I also know how to drive but don't. I've never had a pressing need to do so and I'm fine with it. I'm eternally grateful for Uber and Lyft, though. I couldn't survive on my own without those two services.

I've never tried to solve a Rubik's Cube, but I'm decent at puzzles, so I suspect I would solve it eventually. I do a lot of crossword puzzles, which aren't particularly similar, but the concept of finding the right path is the same. You just have to try things on for size and see what fits.

I fail miserably at knot-tying! Not your ordinary knot, mind you. We are boaters and tying the right kind of knot is essential for keeping the boat docked. I screw it up every time! It's a problem!
  • Hah - Charlotte Duncan‍, Ray Bergman‍, and Sage Evans‍ - I'm with you; I have never been able to see those either!

And, Liz Hackett‍ - thank you, from the rest of us on the roads (/tease!)
  • I can't listen to music and keep my feet still - I had to bring a rug up to work so when I tap no one hears it - sorry cube mates!
  • Not sure if I can solve a Rubik's cube, maybe I should try.
